William Neill, recipient of the Ansel Adams Award for conservation photography, has been producing stunning images of the American landscape for more than thirty years. One of Neill’s life’s goals has been to convey the deep, spiritual beauty he sees and feels in nature. This remarkable collection of trees and forests reflects the success of his efforts; it is truly awe-inspiring. Neill masterfully conveys the glory of blazing autumn leaves, the tactile aspect of bark, and the sense of size and majesty. He artfully captures the rare moments when the light is just “picture perfect,” or as it filters through majestic trees, or the sun is peeking from behind the tree trunk, illuminating the forest floor. As Joyce Kilmer so thoughtfully wrote, “I think I shall never see, A poem as lovely as a tree.”
